I had a traditional upbringing, my Mum taught me how to bake, sew, arts and crafts and all sorts of fun little projects that her Mum probably taught her too. She came from a very large family of eight brothers and sisters and hand me downs were part of life. Trying to be an individual my mother found many interesting ways to recycle and repurpose old clothes into something new.

It’s with that thought in mind that I came across this fun little project and if done with due patience and care, you’ll really come up with something special.

I included some photos of me dancing around in my recycled T-Shirt necklace which was made with two different sized grey t-shirts a small and large that were then bleached lightly for effect.

 

Tools and Materials

• Soft cotton T-shirt, feel free to use an old one. If you wish to use a new one, wash first
• Ruler
• Scissors or rotary cutter

 

 

How To Make T-Shirt Necklace
1. Lay the shirt on a flat surface; cut off the hem and discard. Then cut the body of the shirt horizontally with either the scissors or rotary cutter into strips approximately 3/4 of an inch long. (They will actually be loops.)

2.One at a time, pull the loops open and stretch until the fabric starts to curl. Stack the loops on top of one another so that all the T-shirt side seams are in the same spot.

3.Once you have the thickness you desire, wrap the seams with a scrap piece of fabric (about 6 inches long) from the same shirt. Tuck the end of the scrap under itself.

You can plat or add beads to yours, there are many ways to put your necklace together. I just did my plain and I wanted length for effect.
